this comes more under the heading of current events and stuff rather than bible controversy so..

i was reading this american book (part of it was on abortion) and found alot of differences between the health systems, in america (apparently) you cant get full health care without a parent/guardians knowledge whilst youre still a child, whereas in the UK one (14/15 yr old) girl went as far as to have an abortion through her school without her parents knowing til months after, completely legally. you can get confidential advice and health care from the age of 14 here, your parents stop having a say at that point.

is this right and if so what do you think?

I personally don't think it's right, the school didn't contact her parents about the situation. (Since she's not quite an adult yet.) So she's still under her parents, but yet she can have an abortion (at a very young age) what if there was some kind of accident that happened and she died? Would the parent's have been able to sue the school? Or would the fault be theirs?

p.s. I changed my first post to fit the topic. :)

well thats the thing its completely legal, theres nothing the parents couldve done, this was brought into action to protect children suffering from child abuse, everytime i go to the doctors with my mum i get asked if i want her in the room or not because its my choice, the school is also bound by that law, they cant pass on info a student has told them in confidence to the parents otherwise it wouldnt be in confidence, and they wouldnt be able to sue because its legal :-/

im not sure what i think on it, by 14 we know alot about abortion (weve had 5 yrs of teaching on that kinda stuff by that point) so we are informed enough to make that choice and i think its perfectly reasonable to allow someone at that age to be in control of what happens to their own bodies, but then again it puts the schools in a really awkward situation, they couldnt go back on their promise and say something and they couldnt of stopped her either, i think there maybe should be exceptions to the law but then again that might stop kids trusting the schools which is what the ultimate aim was in the first place :-/

I personally believe that the girl's parents should know about it, since the girl is still a child herself.

"Women offered 'lunchtime' abortions on Scots NHS"

The National Health Service in Scotland are taking abortions out of operating theatres and into outpatient treatment rooms, meaning women will be fully conscious as they'll be using local anaesthetics. They're doing this to free up theatres and and save money. This was started in England in a private clinic nine years ago and is recommended because, and i quote, "they could be quite easily completed during a working women's lunchtime."

:( and it's all to save money, my mum was pointing out how if it's done outside of an operating theatre it takes away all the drama and the article was saying its making it more like a trip to the dentist :-/
